Set up Nearfield

The first time you open Nearfield, a short setup asks for a few things. This page lists them in order.

Before the setup

Nearfield works with Ableton Live 12.

Nearfield is in beta. You need an approved account. Request access at nearfieldapp.com. When we approve you, we send you an email. If we invite you by email, you are already approved.

Install the app first.

  • Install on a MacConfirm the first open on a Mac with Apple silicon.
  • Install on WindowsRun the installer. Confirm the blue box if Windows shows it.

The setup, in order

Three short cards come first. Then the setup shows "Step 1 of 5" and so on. Each step has its own page.

  1. Answer the first three questions. The beta agreement, usage counts and crash reports.
  2. Choose your projects folder. Step 1: the folder that holds your project folders.
  3. Sign in to Nearfield. Step 2: make your account with the email we approved.
  4. Save your recovery code. Also step 2, on your first computer: keep the 12 words somewhere safe.
  5. Remember your projects. Step 3: Nearfield reads each project once.
  6. Name your masters. Step 4: the words that mark a master.
  7. Fix everything now. Step 5: repair what Nearfield can, in one run.

Your recovery code

On your first computer, Nearfield shows “Your recovery code”. It is 12 words. See Save your recovery code.
