Help / Moving to a new computer / Read what did not come across

Read what did not come across

Nearfield shows what came across to your new computer, and what did not.

What the move report does

  • It only reads. It changes no Set and removes nothing.
  • It does not copy your library for you. You copy it yourself.

The top of the report has one line. For example, it says “Everything came across”, or it counts what is missing. Below it, each project has its own list.

The three groups

The list has up to three groups. Each group has a symbol and a word, so you do not need colour to read it.

  • “Didn't come across” lists samples that are not here, and plugins that cannot open on this system. For example, an Audio Unit cannot open on Windows.
  • “Came but needs you” lists things that arrived. You have one thing to do for each. For example, a sample path is too long for Windows, or a plugin is not installed here.
  • “Left behind on purpose” lists samples that were already missing before the move. The move did not lose them.

When a missing sample comes from an Ableton Pack, the screen names the Pack to install on this computer.

What to do next

  • For a path that is too long, read Shorten sample paths.
  • For missing samples, read Put missing samples back.
  • For plugins, read Find missing plugins in a project.
